Artist Biography
Rebecca Bowman was first introduced to art and photography in high school, where her teachers fostered her passion and talents, encouraging her to pursue a degree in fine art. Rebecca’s formal art education began at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco though she completed her Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, where she later returned to pursue a certification in art education awarded in 2011. Rebecca identifies herself as an artist and educator in equal regard. In the time following her graduation Rebecca has channeled her creative energy into the development of content and curriculum for a variety of educational institutions, alongside growing her commercial portfolio and establishing Rebecca Bowman Photography. While marketing her portraiture, Rebecca never stopped documenting her experiences including national and international travel, as well as her local adventures into forgotten rural environments. Armed with her camera and a general disregard for no trespassing signs she ventured into abandoned homes and commercial structures becoming fascinated by the objects that were left behind. To Rebecca every photographic image she takes offers an insight into the life of the people who once resided or worked in these derelict spaces. Together these photographs begin to construct a timeline of Colorado history, in addition to generating a dialogue surrounding consumption, waste, and personal identity; three concepts that are threaded into all of Rebecca’s artistic pursuits and expressions.
